Central to the mission of The Philadelphia Singers is its commitment to ensuring that choral music has a vibrant
present as well as a rich past. To that end, The Singers has presented an extensive array of Philadelphia, American
and World Premieres.
The Singers has also enjoyed a productive history of commissioning new works, many of which
have entered the standard choral repertoire. These commissioned works include: William Bolcoms The Mask, Robert
Capannas Day, Romeo Cascarinos William Penn, Ezra Ladermans Brotherly Love and Vincent Persichettis Flower Songs.
In December 2001, The Philadelphia Singers announced the appointment of Jennifer Higdon as Composer in Residence.
Ms. Higdon has composed four works for The Philadelphia Singers: Deep in the Night, Sing Sing, Southern Grace, and O Magnum Mysterium.
As Composer in Residence, Ms. Higdon is currently working on a new choral composition for the 2007-2008 season.
