Robert E. Mortensen
Mr. Mortensen joined The Philadelphia Singers in April of 2001 as the ensemble’s General Manager, having spent the last five years as an independent transportation consultant advising governments around the world on ways to concession (“privatize”) state owned railroads. He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Central East African Railways Company, which operates rail lines in Malawi and Northern Mozambique Africa. Prior to his consulting assignments, Mr. Mortensen had a thirty-year career with Conrail before retiring in 1996. He has served as President, Principal Director, and Chairman of the Board of Merchants Dispatch Transportation Corp. (a Conrail, Inc. subsidiary). He was also Assistant Vice President of the Transloading Services Group at Conrail, Inc., where he was responsible for operations, development and merchandising of the railroad’s bulk transfer terminals. Previously at Conrail, Mr. Mortensen was Assistant Vice President of Forecasting and Planning in the Marketing Sales Department and a member of the Conrail activation team, which undertook the strategic commercial planning for the Company at the time of the railroad’s creation. A graduate of Rutgers University, from which he also obtained an MBA, Mr. Mortensen served in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Colonel. He served in The Air Force Reserve until 1993 as an Intelligence Operations Officer. He is past President of the American Railway Development Association, Awards Chairman for the Pennsylvania Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and serves on the Boards of the Atwater Kent Museum and The Philadelphia Singers. |
